UAE: Proof of Academic Credentials Required for Gulf Cooperation Council National Labour Cards
Analysis
The UAE is now strictly enforcing documentation requirements for GCC nationals obtaining GCC National Labour Cards. Applicants are now required to present proof of their academic credentials in order to obtain the cards. Educational degrees should be legalised for the purposes of processing GCC Labour Card applications, although this requirement is subject to the discretion of immigration officials and is not always enforced for GCC nationals.
Though GCC nationals do not require a visa for legal residence in the UAE, they are required to obtain a GCC National Labour Card if they intend to obtain employment.
Educational certificates are not required for renewal applications, unless a labour card amendment (such as a job title change) is also required.
What This Means for Employers and Individuals
Employers should ensure their GCC national employees traveling to the UAE for work carry copies of their education certificates to avoid delays or potential setbacks.
