Immigration Offices Across the Middle East Will Close for Eid-al-Fitr

Analysis

Government offices in the Middle East, North Africa and parts of Asia are expected to close to observe Eid around 28 July 2014, depending on moon sightings.

In most of the world, Eid-al-Fitr is expected to be observed between the 28 and 30 July, though the exact dates will vary by country depending on moon sightings. Immigration and labour offices in the United Arab Emirates will be closed from the 27 to 31 July. Similar four to five-day closures are expected in Bahrain, Egypt, Kuwait, Qatar, Oman, and Pakistan (where Eid is expected to take place on 29 July). Government offices in Saudi Arabia are expected to remain closed for longer.

What This Means for Employers and Individuals

Companies operating in the region should note most immigration and labour authorities will remain closed for most of the coming week to observe Eid-al-Fitr. Processing delays in the weeks following Eid due to backlogs caused by the downtime are anticipated.
