Oman: New Activity Restrictions for Express Visas
Analysis
Express Visa holders are advised during their stay to engage in business-related activities only, like attending meetings and seminars, informal training programmes, negotiating contacts, and conducting field research. Express Visa holders should no longer engage in hands-on work activities during their stay, due to reports of revised policies and increased scrutiny by the Royal Oman Police (ROP) - the local authority responsible for matters pertaining to immigration.
The ROP does not publish an official list of permissible activities for Express Visa holders, but in practice the ROP has become more restrictive on the type of activities allowed. Recent experiences show the Express Visa should be used to engage in business activities which do not involve hands-on or profit-generating work.
