UAE: Salary Requirements to Sponsor Spouse and Children in the UAE Remain Unchanged

Analysis

Foreign national employees intending to sponsor their spouse or children for dependent residence permits in the UAE must provide proof of a minimum monthly salary of 4,000 AED, or 3,000 AED with an additional housing allowance. Immigration officials have officially denied rumours the salary requirement is increasing to 10,000 AED a month.

Senior Immigration executives have officially denied recent reports that UAE Immigration is raising the monthly salary requirement for sponsoring a spouse or children from 4,000 AED to 10,000 AED. Officials have confirmed that since this is a provision included in Federal Immigration Law, minimum salary requirements remain the same unless a formal amendment to the law is approved.

Individuals earning at least 4,000 AED a month, or 3,000 AED with an additional housing allowance, are eligible to sponsor their spouse or children for dependent residence permits. Female sponsors are required to meet more stringent eligibility criteria, including a higher monthly salary. Certain occupations, like labourers, drivers, and domestic staff are not eligible to sponsor their dependents.
