Analysis
According to local reports, female foreign nationals applying for Omani residence permits are being subjected to increased scrutiny and screening and many applications are being rejected.
However no official announcement has been made by the Manpower Ministry and the increased scrutiny does not extend to visa and renewal applications by existing residents who work as house maids. However it is understood these applications are being considered on a case-by-case basis.
What This Means for Employers
Clients intending to send female employees to Oman for long-term engagements, or short-term engagements which require an employee to obtain a work or residence permit, should take note of this development and take precautionary measures to avoid potential setbacks.
