UAE: Egyptian Dual-Nationals Now Require Birth Certificate and Egyptian Passport to Apply for Employment Residence Permit

Analysis

It has recently been announced Egyptian dual-nationals are now required to provide a copy of their birth certificate along with a copy of their Egyptian ID/passport in order to process their Employment Residence Permit (ERP) applications in the UAE. These documents must be provided in addition to the documents already required for an ERP.

Other nationalities routinely selected for detailed security screening with dual passports may, subject to discretion, be subject to similar documentation requirements.

Syrian dual-nationals have been subject to similar document requirements since mid-2013. Reports also suggest dual-nationals from other countries routinely selected for detailed security screening, like Iraq, may also be required to provide these further documents in order for their ERP applications to be processed.

Syrian and Egyptian nationals (among others) may experience longer processing times, heightened security screening, and may have their applications rejected.

The requirements mentioned above apply to mainland and TECOM applications, but other free zones may, subject to discretion, make this a requirement as well. Fragomen will continue monitoring this development and will revert with any additional information.
