The 24-hour system has been established together with the Association of Banks and will be operated by SWIFT.

It will enable payments to be made by credit card or bank transfer, but credit card payments will be subject to a 1.25% fee.

The service is available to individuals and companies and a one-off application will need to be made to the Ministry first.

It is hoped online payments will stop tax payment officials from being bribed.
