Egypt: Industrial Property Tax Criticised

The Chairman said the law's implementation should be postponed to protect the pharmaceutical industry, who cannot agree on standards for estimating land and buildings values because of the differences in residential real estate and industrial rea estate prices.
The Chairman went onto recommend they should be evaluated in line with the Urban Communities Authority's valuation during the licensing process and requested the tax on factories which aren't performing be reconsidered, as many are in the countryside and suburbs, where owners are not fully aware of the laws and regulations.
He concluded by saying pharmaceutical factories would be hardest hit and could face ruin because of their need for storage space and the fixed prices set by the Health Ministry.
