Abdallah Bin Saoud Al Thani said there were no worries about implementing FATCA in Qatar, but he added appropriate legal measures should be introduced to protect banking services in the Gulf region.

Al Thani also announced FATCA would be implemented in Qatar in January 2014 giving the Bank sufficient time to introduce implementation measures

Al Thani's comments come after Qatar hosted a FATCA forum. The event discussed FATCA, the responses of national governments internationally and what financial institutions should do to get ready for FATCA. US Treasury representatives addressed FATCA's purpose and scope, the implementation timetable, the model of international agreements, and assessed international responses to the new law.
