Deloitte Middle East has published its annual construction report: “GCC Powers of Construction: Five Lessons to Learn From”. The report concludes major construction opportunities remain in Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Abu Dhabi, despite challenges and difficulties in delivering current projects. Large infrastructure projects, particularly social and transport infrastructure, will offer contractors tremendous opportunities, as will continuing upstream and downstream oil and gas related developments. However although there are massive opportunities associated with huge construction spending, the report highlights how many project sponsors still have to deal with illiquid projects and debt.
