Jordan-Canada Free Trade Agreement to Enter into Force This Year

Analysis

Jordan's Ministry of Industry and Trade has said that he expects a free trade agreement signed with Canada to enter into force this year

The agreement seeks to enhance economic relations between the two countries in all sectors, and particularly in trade promotion and investment.

Upon ratification, Jordanian goods will be exempt from customs duties and other charges in Canada.

Canadian goods entering the Jordanian market will be gradually exempt from tariffs over a period of 3 to 5 years.

The two countries also agreed to a limited list of goods to be excluded from tariff reduction in order to protect domestic producers.

The agreement is the first that Canada has signed with an Arab country.

It will enter into force after the Canadian parliament has ratified it.
