Background

A husband filed a case at Riyadh General Court against his wife claiming she had stayed with him for one year after their marriage and had then returned to her family. He requested the court order his wife to return to her husband's house.

The wife stated she had married him in 2004 and did not like him. She had previously filed a redemptory divorce case against him. The man had divorced her for one time.

The judge asked the woman about the value of the dowry. The dowry was 50000 Riyals. The judge asked each party to choose a judge in the next session. The two judges tried to reconcile them but failed to reach any agreement.

Decision

The court ruled the marriage contract should be dismissed and the woman should pay pack the value of dowry.
