This case involved a claim for compensation by a woman who had been abused and hit by her husband. The husband claimed her had hit her because she had abused him. The case gives an example of the approach and sentencing in this type of case.
Background
A woman filed a case against her husband at Riyadh Summary Court claiming he had abused and hit her many times. She asked that he be ordered to pay her compensation. The man stated the woman had abused him and that he hit her to punish her for misbehaviour.
Decision
The court referred the woman to a medical committee to evaluate the injuries she had suffered.
The court ruled that the man should pay the woman 9000 Riyals and he should be punished with 30 lashes. The court ruled that the man should pledge that he would not hit his wife again.
The court of cassation upheld the ruling.
