Compensation – Unjust Imprisonment – Appropriate Court
A man claimed compensation for time he had spent in prison. He had been accused of involvement in drugs but the case had been dropped. He took a damages case to the Criminal Court. The court stated it did not have the jurisdiction to hear such a case which should have been heard by the Ombudsman Office.
Background
An accused man filed a case (Jeddah Criminal Court Case No. 3475179 Folder No. 34378268 on 20/04/2013) claiming that the investigation authority and the public prosecution office had imprisoned him for three months because he was accused of involvement in selling drugs but when the court had considered the case against him, it had decided to dismiss the case.
