This case involved whether a prisoner convicted of forgery had been unfairly imprisoned after the sentence was over. Key issues included the court jurisdiction, liability of the prison authorities and a private rights claim.
Background
A claimant stated he had been suspended in a forgery case and a ruling was issued in this case charging him with the crime and sentencing him to year in prison from the date on which he was arrested and fining him 1000 Riyals. He served his sentence but the prison did not release him and therefore the prisoner requested compensation up to the date of his release. The claimant also submitted an urgent request to release him. The court said he should be released provided that he was not detained because of another case.
