SBG 118/2015

This case involved an individual charged with bribing a police officer to stop a fine being levied. The accused was acquitted as they did not speak arabic and he had made the payment as he did not know what to do.

Background

The office of public prosecution filed a case against a defendant before the court. It requested the court to charge the defendant with bribing a police officer in order for them not to issue a fine against him.

Decision

The court considered the documents of the case. The court said that it concluded that the defendant could not speak Arabic and that he had paid the officer 50 Riyals because he did not know what to do at the time. The court said that the defendant did not intend to bribe the officer.

The court did not charge the defendant.

The court of appeal upheld the ruling accordingly.
