The office of public prosecution accused two defendants of publishing a report in a newspaper which included insulting expressions about two victims. The office also accused a third defendant in participating in the crime. The office requested the court to penalise the defendants according to the relevant laws.

The victims filed a case against the defendants before the court. They requested the court to order them to pay temporary compensation of 5001 Dinars.

The court acquitted the defendants. The court said that the consideration of the civil case filed by the victims did fall under its jurisdiction.

The office of public prosecution appealed the ruling before the court of appeal. The court upheld the appealed ruling.

The victims appealed the ruling before the court of cassation.
