ECC 2939/2001

This case involved a claim for insurance under a life insurance policy for an individual who had died. The claim was covered by the statute of limitations as requests had not been sent to the relevant court within the deadline.

Background

The legal heirs of an insured person filed a case before the Court of First Instance against an insurance company requesting a compensation of 20,000 Egyptian Pounds which was the cost of a life insurance policy with interest since the case was filed until the payment was made. However; the Court of First Instance rejected the claim so the plaintiffs filed an appeal before the Court of Appeal who repealed the ruling and held the insurance company should pay the plaintiffs 20,000 Egyptian Pounds and 4% interest from the beginning of the claim until the issue of the judgment.
