ECC 2198/62

This case involved who were the relevant parties in a dispute over compensation for seized land.

Background

Two claimants filed a case against a defendant and requested the court amend an appealed decision and to determine the area of a disputed piece of land of 800 Egyptian Pounds. The claimants stated their land was seized by the defendant and the value of the compensation was estimated at 50 Egyptian Pounds per square Metre. The two claimants stated that they objected to this assessment but the relevant committee had refused their objection.

The court ruled that the area of the land should be estimated at 433.09 square metres and a value of 395 Egyptian Pounds per Metre.

The defendant appealed the ruling before the court of appeal and requested the court to reject the case because it had been filed against irrelevant party. The court abandoned the appealed ruling and rejected the case.
