Landlord – Tenant – Hospital – Rent – Tenancy Agreement
This case involved the legal rent which should be paid for flats which were rented for use as a hospital.
Background
A landlord filed a case before the court of first instance (No. 815/1997) against a tenant requesting a rent increase to the limit permitted by Egypt Law No. 6/1997. The landlord also requested the employee to pay 720 Egyptian Pounds for the rent for April and May 1997. The tenant had rented two flats which were connected to use as a hospital for with a monthly rent of 180 Egyptian Pounds. The landlord also claimed that a ruling was issued in 1983 confirming that the flat was a furnished property rented for the amount stated in the contract under Egypt Law No. 136/1981 and therefore the provisions of Article 6 of Egypt Law No. 6/1997 was applicable including the provisions which related to the increase in rent.
