ECC 776/1999

This case involved compensation and end of service gratuity due to a headmaster. The key issue was whether the headmaster was responsible for violations which had led to the school going into financial and administrative supervision and the impact this had on their dues.

Background

A claimant filed a case against a school and other defendants before the labour court requesting the school pay her 10500 Egyptian Pounds as an end of service gratuity and 10000 Egyptian Pounds for compensation for unfair dismissal.

The court dismissed the case.

The claimant appealed the ruling before the court of appeal. The court dismissed the appealed ruling and ruled that the school should pay the claimant 5000 Egyptian Pounds as compensation for unfair dismissal and 500 Egyptian Pounds for notice period.
