DIFC 166/2020

Lendro v Mr Lutis

This case involved a claim by a lawyer for amounts which were unpaid for legal services under an engagement agreement. The client claimed they had sent an email terminating the firm's services but they had continued to bill them for work they had not requested. However, the client had continued to communicate with the law firm and not only on pre-existing matters and they had not cancelled the power of attorney.

Background

The Claimant filed a claim in the DIFC Courts' Small Claims Tribunal  seeking an order for the payment of alleged unpaid invoices relating to an engagement agreement dated 9 February 2015 of 33,075.56 AED.

2. The Defendant had paid the Claimant's invoices until August 2019, and thereafter from September 2019 until February 2020, and after this time, the Defendant stopped paying for the Claimant's services. Throughout this time, however, the Defendant led the Claimant to believe that the relationship continued as normal and he would pay for their services.
