DCFI 1739/2024
This case involved a claim by an employee for late payment of basic and other salary and arbitrary dismissal. Other issues included pay in lieu of notice and holiday pay. A key point was part of the monthly amounts due to the employee included cryptocurrency.
Background
A plaintiff filed a lawsuit against the defendant by a statement of claim submitted on 29-3-2024 and legally notified, requesting that the defendant be obliged to pay her 221,378 AED, plus 5% interest from the due date until full payment, to pay fees and expenses, including the enforcement of the ruling without a bond. This was based on the grounds that she had joined the defendant on 1-7-2022 under a fixed-term employment contract with a basic monthly salary of 30,000 AED in addition to 5,250 Eco Wat tokens. The defendant had stopped paying her salary or five months from November 2022 until March 2023 without cause, prompting her to file a complaint with the Free Zone on 6-4-2023, in which she demanded the salary for the delayed months. The defendant company paid the delayed salaries to close the complaint.
