DCC 4/2010

This case involved a claim by an employee who had not received her dues against her current and former employer. The former employer who had not paid the money was ordered to pay what was owed. This did not include a flight ticket as the employee had not been recruited from overseas.

Background

An employee filed a case against two companies and requested the court order them to jointly pay 882.930.17 AED and annual interest of 12%. The employee stated she had started working with the first company on 01/02/2003 and had resigned from her job on 10/06/2008 because she had not received her dues.

The court rejected the case against the second company and ruled the first company should pay the employee 133160 AED, annual interest of 9% and the value of a flight ticket.

The employee and the company appealed the ruling before the court of appeal. The court changed the ruling and ruled that the company should pay the employee 382384 AED and the annual interest.
