DCC 16/2010

This case involved a claim for unpaid dues, interest and a flight ticket by an employee who had been dismissed. The company appealed on the basis the court had increased the compensation level without explaining the reasons behind it. Although the court had made a mistake this had not invalidated the whole ruling.

Background

An employee filed a case against a company and requested the court order the company to pay him 299067 AED, an annual interest and the cost of a flight ticket. The employee stated he had started work with the company on 15/10/2008 and was dismissed on 15/06/2009 but the company had refused to pay his dues.

The company requested the court to order the employee to pay 214067 AED and annual interest.

The court ruled the company should pay the employee 214,067 AED, annual interest of 9% and the value of a flight ticket. The court rejected the company's request.

The company and the employee appealed the ruling before the court of appeal. The court changed the appealed ruling and ruled the company should pay 252,067 AED.
