DCC 188/2003

The original dispute involved a claim by an employee who had been dismissed without the payment of her dues. It was argued the appeal had been filed outside the deadline. However, the employee had provided the court with evidence that the employer had admitted their liability.

Background

An employee filed a case against a company and requested the court order the company to pay her 34000 AED. The employee stated she had worked with the company on a definite-period contract. She was dismissed from her work on 29/11/2001 and the company refused to pay her dues.

The court ruled that the company should pay the employee 19888 AED and 9% annual interest.

The employee and the company appealed the ruling before the court of appeal. The court abandoned the appealed ruling and rejected the case because it had not been filed within the legal deadline.
