DCC 19/2003

This case involved an employee who resigned after not being paid her wages. Her two employers tried to argue that she owed them a debt. This was not accepted as the court had only been provided with photocopy evidence of the debt.

Background

An employee filed a case against two employers and requested the court to order them to pay her 184769 AED and 9% annual interest. The employee stated she had started working with the company on 20/11/1995 and the contract had been renewed twice with the same conditions. The employee stated after the second renewal the employers had paid her just 2500 AED of her salary and she had resigned.

The court ruled that the two employers should pay the employee 184800 AEDs and 9% annual interest.

The two employers appealed the ruling before the court of appeal. The court changed the appealed ruling and ruled that the employers should pay the employee 85100 AED and the value of a flight ticket plus 9% annual interest.
