This case looked at responsibility for goods which were damaged while being shipped. The bill of lading had been changed and he seal on the container broken. The carrier tried to argue the consignee was responsible for the damage as the goods had been badly packed. As the seal had been broken when the goods were in the defendant's custody, they were liable for the damage.
