Passport – Nationality – Parentage – Birth Certificate – Sharia Court
This case involved a request that a Bahraini father arrange a passport for his daughter who was born in Bahrain. The father stated the daughter had been born before his marriage to her mother and requested the case be referred to the sharia court. This was rejected as the father was able to endorse the daughter's parentage. The girl had a relevant birth certificate and the passport should have been issued.
Background
A claimant filed a case against a defendant before the court requesting the issue of a passport for her daughter. The claimant said that he was a Bahraini citizen and her daughter was born in Bahrain. The claimant said that he requested the defendant issue a passport for her but his request was rejected.
The court ruled that the defendant should issue a passport for the claimant's daughter.
The defendant appealed the ruling before the court of appeal. The court upheld the appealed ruling.
