Iran: Amended Anti-terrorist Financing Law Approved

06/12/2018: Iran’s Parliament has approved a revised draft of the anti-terrorist financing law. Parliament had included draft amendments requested by the Guardian Council, which reviews all legislation approved by Parliament before it becomes law. The Financial Action Task Force had set a deadline of February for Iran to implement measures to comply with anti-money laundering and anti-terrorist financing standards. The approved version brings the country more into line with international standards. The aim is to help it get off international sanction blacklists. Those in Iran hoped the legislation if passed by Parliament would allow Iran to join an international agreement against the financing of terrorism.
